Has anyone found the governer on their VY?

is that a standard vy? and i hope it was on a track under controlled conditions ;)
I've never tried it and well, unless given an unused airstrip (topgear style) i doubt i'll ever get close to that speed.
There is a thread in the VZ section about the sv6's top speed, you might want to give that a read as well.

sorry should have been specific about the model...

It's a VYII SS, but I live in Kuwait so it's badged as a 2004 Chevy Lumina SS (but my toolkit says VY Holden :) )
as far as test track conditions well..... imagine miles and miles of straight roads in the desert...
there are some places here where you can cruise - yes cruise - on 200+ and there are some places where you shouldn't do over 120 but people do 180 regularly - scarry stuff sometimes.
My mate has a 2005 SS and he hit the limiter at 240, but he backed off and gave it another go and got 245 out of it.
When i first hit it, it scared the crap out of me and i backed off so I wasn't sure if it was a governer or just a problem, but the next time I made sure, and yep she's limited.

Ive done 200 in my 3.8 V6 in the NT and that was with 3.5K revs (so still had legs). I only did it for a few mins then settled down to 160 which i find quite comfortable

I have the VY NA 3.8lt, its 4 speed Auto and it gets to 200km/hr and changes from 3rd to 4th when in 3rd at over 5000rpm then back to 4th and then back to 3rd at over 5000rpm in little as a second, so it sits in 3rd at 200km/hr and wont go into 4th which sucks.

Why is this and what can I do to get it change into 4th gear when at 200km/hr instead of it sitting in 3rd at over 5000rpm.

Id say its the Torque limiter on the Auto , the 3-4 changes are the weakest point of the 4l60E so id say it would be to avoid breakage.

BTW slow down boys ;)

ive clocked my vy v8 ute 250+ it was still pulling hard too, i dont know about if they degoverned mine on the dyno with the edit, but i think even b4 the edit i got to about 240+ then backed off no room left, (on the track off course :D)

Have had my Clubby up to 210 but got **** scared as this is the fastest I had ever done, 6th Gear at about 3000rpm, CRUZZYY!!! From my understanding, Most VY Holdens should be limited on Autos only but not on Manuals, the only Governing they get is at 6000rpm set by the ECU. HSV's get and extra 200rpm though :D Lucky me!!! (One day I'll get crazy enough to use it I hope!!)

Just a short unrelated note Gen3_350_V8, the actual rated ci capacity of the gen3 is actually 346ci. Yes it is a different engine!! TOTALLY!!:D
