Well I fudged up real good.

$1500 for recon'd Gen2 3SGTE + recon'd gearbox + intercooler etc + spare gen2 3sgte block & head only...... dont think anything better will come up.

Next cheapest

Gen2 3SGTE - no gearbox, no intercooler - $1850... still need to find a gearbox and intercooler etc.

you may find the gearbox of the 3S-GE will fit the 3S-GTE, get your self on google and search MR-2 turbo conversion! im sure there will be heaps of stuff about it.

Just had a quick search and there seems to be some conflicting stuff on various forums about the N/A Vs Turbo box.

Best bet would obviously be to get a turbo gearbox for piece of mind, but you may get away with using your N/A box for a while.

Does the engine need to come out to swap the gearboxes? or is it possible to do it without?
I'd keep my standard gearbox for now... and swap it later but don't wan pay for the whole engine to come out again etc.
Taking the engine out and putting it back in is where all the costs are for the mr2

Sweeet... my gf already trying to kill me for doing a engine swap. So the cheaper the better and I can change things along the way. She already doesn't understand why I need a 2seater car :D ... a 1seater would be prefered haha

Is there a Revision 4 3sgte? I asked if they had any engines to replace my 3S-GE in my 1990 Toyota MR2 SW20.
They have a 3S-GE and then the rev4 3sgte.

"gen 4 3sgte turbo engine complete with all electrics to run $3300 plus freight"

3S-GTE usage in Toyotas (Wikipedia)
Generation Year Model
1 1986-1989 Celica ST165
2 1990-1994 Celica ST185(-1993), MR2 SW20 (MR2 Turbo)
