The obvious is check the trans fluid level, hot. Also smell the fluid on the dipstick, see if it smells burnt.

Yeah, it's crap there's no dipstick on the 5 speed, but if you had of done a seal and lost fluid you should see the result. Just drop the pan and have a look in the bottom then.

The fact you turn the car off and on again makes me think it's an electrical fault and its being reset by turning the car off. Has it thrown a code?

Hey Harrop,

no code is thrown and it doesnt go into limphome mode either. i thought about it this morning and a search points towards a solenoid has gone in the trans, but no one is open the next few days to fix it :(

I think it might be your tps. Mine was doing the same every now and then. If its a solenoid the problem normally won't go away. Usually once a solenoid goes they rarely come good again.

Mine never threw a code either but the TPS was shot and eventually got worse and worse until i couldn't drive very often without it going spastic. If a solenoid fails you will pretty much be home on the back of a flatbed.

You haven't provided any specific information regarding your location in your Profile therefore it is not possible to provide you with specific information regarding repairers. Suggest that you consider getting the transmission checked/serviced by a reputable Auto Transmission Specialist. Good luck.

Hi all,

had it looked at by a transmission specialist, and it ended up being the TCM( trans computer) throwing an error :(
