It's been a while so here's another update. Still no lift fitted yet, hopefully in the next few months. I do, however, have a winch on the way. It's a Tigerz11 Grande MkII. They were having a massive sale and I picked it up for $395 with dyneema rope.

that's a bargain, tigerz winches aren't all that bad and considering the price they are bloody awesome

My winch turned up on Friday and I've started the install. It's mounted up at the moment and tomorrow I should have time to make a plate and mount the control box then it's just a case of running the cabling which shouldn't take long to do. I was going to put in an external isolator but it already has an inline one so I don't know if I will bother.

I ordered the MkII which was on run out but they've sent me a MkIII. I guess it's better lol.

I'm going to change the included hook to a Factor 55 FlatLink. The hook is fkn massive to say the least and it'll look stupid because when the winch is resting I'm not going to hook it to a tow hook like most other people do.

I'm not too sure which FlatLink I'll end up getting but they're both rates to 16,000 lbs so they're not going to be the weakest component.

Here's the other type which is called a ProLink

I fitted the winch control box up today, it was much easier than expected! I had to fab up a plate so it could sit on which consisted of cutting a sheet of aluminium to size and filing the edges smooth. I used domed nuts on the underside of the plate so there's no chance of nicking the rope on any sharp edges.

After a quick lick of black paint and a whirl with the heat gun so I didn't have to wait for
It to dry it was ready to put in. After a quick test fit it was simply a matter of running the cabling.

I gave it a quick test run and all works great. I'm going to get my old mans ute out on the flat street, knock it out of gear and pull it in just to get some tension on the spool as the rope is pretty slack at the moment.

Congrats on getting a free upgrade with the winch. What else are you going to do to the car?

Hopefully a lift! I feel as if I've done it all backwards, I should have done suspension first haha. I guess by getting suspension last it'll be its final weight so the kit will be set up to suit.

Does the missus know that she is the one who gets to run up the hill with the winch cable when you get stuck?

Now we just need a vid of the winch in action on a hill or a mud bog somewhere.... :)

The latest addition turned up today, nothing major but when it's used it'll certainly be noticed! A Stebel Nautilus compact horn. It's supposedly rated at 139 decibels. I couldn't get it installed this afternoon so I figured it'd be a good idea to bench test it off a motorbike battery I use for all my little 12v electrical projects I do. In my fully enclosed garage. With the door down. It wasn't such a good idea after all...

Anyway, I might do a quick comparison video if I can be bothered. I'm going to hook it up inline with the stock horn rather than replace it.

Here's a picture in the meantime.

Awaiting video....
Might buy one for the G6ET, currently has the duel Narva compact horns on it and I love them, this should be even better!

Hows the winch wired ? Is it live all the time? I recently saw the result after a set of smartarses wrapped the cable around the truck and shorted out the winch plug. I made a note to myself i'll add a contractor on any winch i wire up.
