For a switch, I used a reed switch. So when they are touching, circuit is open - no lights, when they are apart, circuit is closed and the lights come on.

Yep, all carpeted, the sides are all built in too with little cupboards

Did you guys hook it strait to the battery so the car dosnt have to be on at all?
