This era Commodores have 2 different size CV's....90MM and 100MM from memory.....You have to physcially measure them to see if you have the right size CV...So it's not as simple as unbolting and re-bolting with that.
Thanks for the info. Is it safe to assume a n/a 6cyl VL tail shaft CV is the smaller one (90mm)? If so I just need to measure my current one (being a VB 253 car with small open diff Salisbury I am confident it is smaller one too) and that would confirm it.

I honestly don't know the CV diametre with it...You have to measure...

Same applies with your current tailshaft.....

I personally have 2 tailshafts here from early Commodores....1 is a 3.3 auto drum braked rear VB Commodore, with the smaller diametre C.V and the 2nd is a VC 6 cyl 5 speed disc braked diff, with the larger C.V.....

So don't take it for granted....Take measurements so you don't get caught

Wow, yeah smorgasbord. I haven't bought the VL 6cyl n/a tailshaft yet so can't measure. But I will measure my current one, and see if the seller can measure the VL 6cyl n/a one. Thanks again for all the info. PS - I found hiy-po's pics from a previous thread. The larger one looks like 100mm OD (90mm bolt hole centre to centre). Smaller one prob 94mm OD.

Honestly I can't remember thee exact diamentions...It was 6 years or so years ago I bought another C.V, which is when I found the differences....

Memory wise, it is outer edge to outer edge...

I have confirmed the heavy duty CV is 100mm OD, and the regular CV is 94mm. The VL 6cyl n/a uses the 94mm from all reports. Not sure what my VB 253 small 8 bolt Salisbury non lsd disc braked came with, so going to get under and measure on the weekend. My guess is it will be the 94mm. The 100mm CV was probably reserved for the 308 large 10 bolt Salisbury or disc braked rear ends.

Ok so my CV is 100mm OD. It must have been upgraded when the 304/T5 were put in. Anyone know ballpark figure for shortening of a tail shaft? I have a VS V8 rear half that is 100mm OD I can use but its too long.

Going back to 2020 ish, I had a tailshaft shortened 25MM, new unis + uni holder, new C.V+ balancing through Hardie Spicer for $600 ish...

$600.00 or $590.00. + what's the delivery charge?
I can pickup for free as I go to Sydney a few times a year. And like I said, that was 4 years ago, so likely be more, plus the other option is brand new and includes a new front half too.
