Hey all just hoping for some general advice.
Car started to not accelerate and just rev out. Problem seems less immiediate after switching off and back on but doesn’t take long to return, also remember it didn’t engage reverse when I was stuck, before switching off/on. No codes where thrown, but was told mechanic put it on a different computer and got some, but it was a phone call and I can’t remember what they were. At first I was told it’s the bcm, with a call later on in the day saying it’s maybe the tcm. I have to choose which way too take it from here, should I try tcm first or bcm? Thanks in advance

take it to a different mechanic who will give you a definite answer on what needs to be fixed

Auto yes. Fulids full but not in good condition. I don’t know any decent mechanics, was recommended to this bloke. The cars not really drivable so would be paying for a tow truck to someone else I don’t know . Seems I’m a bit in the **** .

Too add to me it would more seem like the tcm, considering there weren’t any codes thrown plus the issue seems to be with the auto. No other electrical issues that I know about. I’m not sure why he can’t be more certain about which it is.

What is the tranny 4, 5, 6, speed?
I don't know about the 5 speed, but with the 6 speed the tcm is inside the tranny.
The 4 speed, l believe the tcm is part of the ecm?
It may just need a service? If the fluid is that bad?
Definitely do what lout suggests.
I think that will get your problem sorted.

It’s just the 4 speed auto pretty sure it’s not inside. Would def be a tow job still, was pretty hectic trying to drive it. Was like drive to 50-60 km, loose acceleration, emergency lights n pull over, switch on off and repeat. Will 100% keep that mechanic on note. This bloke I’m at seems to have good reviews, I’ll have another chat with him on Tuesday, seeing how that goes I’ll price it out getting it to Burwood.

i had a catalytic converter collapse on my work van on the way home from western suburbs
boss wouldn't ok a tow truck and said just limp home
accelerate flat out in first gear, coast down to 20km/h and repeat
all the way from westgate bridge to frankston south
took me 2.5 hours to get home
so if you choose a quiet time a short drive should be do-able
try holding trans in first or second and see if that helps

It wasn’t the tcm, been recommended to replace the trans now but will defiantly be taking it elsewhere first. Been doing a bit of reading into it, more than likely the solenoid is sticking I reckon. Am I just better off too get a 2nd hand auto in it, or give it a service?
