So I've seen these, most aftermarket VE ones seem to be 45mm. Anyone know if I can use 35mm ones? I think they would look a little tidier.

Yeah, I don't like those plastic caps. Otherwise they would be the go.

They should, I got the 45mm ones last week and put them on and off to see how far it sits and by eye, You still have 10+ to play with on the inner thread. I would recommend the shorties, I got red acorns and they look nice, but shorter as you said would be cleaner.
