For those that don't know and tend to cut it out, the honeycomb is to provide laminar air flow... that is less turbulent air. Makes for consistent readings.

Well I put the new MAF in the VX and so far so good. Pretty much plug and play.

Car drives fine, no check engine light, no codes thrown, car drives great at both low speeds and WOT. Fuel economy figures are normal.

The internal diameter of this new MAF is definitely much larger than the old MAF so should flow more.
The adapter cable it came with just plugged in to the existing loom. The MAF fit into the cars existing airbox and maf pipe fittings.

I'll give an update after I have tested it some more but this seems like a cost effective, plug and play, no tune required, MAF upgrade for VT-VY LS1's.

Awesome, I was just looking into fitting a 297kw MAF to my 250kw Gen3. This fits the bill perfectly, no mucking about, and should look standardish too.
Next mod would be a bigger throttle body to compliment it.

Just did some measurements on the internal structures of both MAF's sensing elements and guide vanes.
The new MAF is 30% larger than the stock LS1 MAF.

The external diameter of both MAF sensors are the same. 90mm

The internal diameters is where the difference is.
The stock MAF shrinks to its smallest diameter of 74mm. Area = 4300mm2
The new MAF has a continuous diameter of 85mm. Area = 5674mm2

The stock MAF's guide vane is 74mm x 11mm thick reducing the MAF area by 814mm2
The new MAF's sensing element tower is 17mm x 47mm PLUS 17mm + 22mm. Reducing the MAF area by 1173mm

The stock MAF's flowable surface area = 3486mm2
The new MAF's flowable surface area = 4501mm2

Nearly a 30% larger opening in the new MAF.

And if you really care... the new MAF is significantly lighter in weight as well.

Nice work. If you have a look under your MCAI you will find that hot air can easily come underneath it and up through the hole on the right hand side (in your pic) that allows access to the airbox mounting screw. You can shove a peice of corflute down between the AC pipes and the MCAI to help stop hot air coming underneath. I secured it to the MCAI and lower airbox with a couple of screws.

Also you should get a tune done, VT/VX stock tunes suck, will give much more gain than changing the maf alone.

so is there actually any performance gain with this mod? or just makes for more consistent/better air/fuel ratios?
