Random Question.
I had my VF in for it's 9 month scheduled service this week.
It has approx. 9000 k on the clock.
Holden service told me that the serpentine belt and tensioner needs replacing.
Is this normal wear for a ' fan ' belt ?

Hey Cuda....although I like short , sharp and direct answers to questions....
The real question is .......where to now for my beast....
Just trust that the service team know what they're doing I suppose.....??

They must mean under warranty, so why not. Else nah there’s something causing that and is not normal. Supposed to do at least 100k km or so.
Had one fail and flail all around the bay did some damage.

Thanks for that Monstar.....
I will check with the service manager as to why they want to replace it so early.
The parts are on backorder as well as new taillights that have faded to orange
across the top reflector area. ( I hadn't noticed the issue )
I think they had known for a while about the few issues and waited till
the next service was due. I have a 6 year warranty , so I hope that the
belt is not classed as a ' consumable '.

Sorry bloke,
I'm normally accused of unecessary waffle.;)
As Monstar alluded to, ~100k is scheduled replacement. I haven't checked the owner's manual, but that sounds correct to me.
I would be asking why it has worn prematurely. It may be a symptom of a poorly aligned or balanced harmonic balancer or other pulley / tensioner. Or, some other insidious detect.
Of course it may also be just a dodgy belt.
Can you see or hear any obviojs signs of wear?
I hope this helps.

Cheers

Thanks Cuda...........The service dept just said that the belt was showing signs of cracking.
As for the tensioner...??? who knows...their bible might say --- ' when replacing the serpentine
belt...the tensioner must also be replaced '. ( I have not checked it myself )
Anyway , going into town tomorrow and will suss it right out at the dealer...
hopefully I can find someone who will make some sense of the apparent early failure.
I will let ya know of the outcome.....regards...bjh

Such as ?

the VE was tuned, 3" KPM exhaust, coilovers, had my 10 year butt cheek groove in the drivers seat. i just knew the car inside and out.

honestly i think its mostly just getting used to the car, some of it is a case of moving the cheese, the rest nothing really major that cant be fixed with time.
