The Chev badge was pretty tough back in 2004! I got hold of a Chev grille from somewhere and had it in my VY SS Ute and the popularity of the Chev badged grill was big in the day!

Historically speaking, I was always about the ADM version of JDM … Japanese all the way, but grey imports were for idiots looking for false economy.

Anyhoo given that context, a Chev badge was, to me, always super-mullety!

Only ended-up with a Commodore because an extremely maintenance-savvy uncle was trading his VS at the time I was looking for something of higher quality than any Australian-made car was going to be … but that 10yo VS was in such good nick & so well maintained I couldn’t resist. And it was such a good, comfy, reliable car for the next 10 years that it kinda pushed me over to The Dark Side

I think the W407 is about $9500 or thereabouts.

A set of DPE / manta headers and catback will cost about $4500 (this is the system Walkinshaw use)

A VCM otr will cost about $500 (what Walkinshaw use)

A cam upgrade with new springs, lifters and DOD delete and tune will be $4000-$5000

So fairly similar in coatings.

Benefits of doing it yourself is you get to pick cam specs and tuner

I think the Walkinshaw is a 224/228 or similar.

I have a 219/224 in mine as I wanted a less noticeable cam

its $13990 from this place, i think the $9500 was back in 2015/16

Ok starting to get wot you all are saying thanks.
So all I want to do is get better sound out of it as it is standed besides otr.
Is there any one you all can mention that you would use in Perth.
Marks Workshop.
Has a lot videos on YouTube that shows his work, car by car.

Some of the best stuff in WA gets done by him.

having had a w407 package fitted to my 2017 ssv redline i have not had any problems with the car at all last 5 years
the tune is a generic and flashed, the tune cam package was dyno tested and developed in house on the engine dyno
at walkinshaw workshop by qualified engineers, they tested 6 different cams to get the best one for street manners for auto and manual drive ability ect , i know this as a friend services there dyno
these same engineers developed the engines tunes on HSV cars for Holden compliance and also worked on the v8 super cars engines
thats what you pay for, not some self taught speed shop back yarder
i also got a quote for a cam package from a melb tuner, well known in australia located in blackburn,
for 6k they would not tell me what parts they used, how many parts, not even what grind cam
what a joke
i said i,m spending the money, do you fit a new cam chain, lifters, chain tenisioner, what springs specs, cam specs ect
nothing, they looked at me dumb founded, just wanted up front deposit
they said its custom spec, a secret, we make it fast MATE
a young guy i know had same story from that work shop, would not tell you what your paying for
i know the walkinshaw package w407 is expensive 10k when i bought it
but its peace of mind, i,m old a retired mechanic could have saved money, fitted a cam lifters springs ect my self , but at my age who wants to craw under cars again, then get it towed to a tuner shop
the walky w407 was great for me, sure its a baby cam, slight loby idle, much more powerful are packages aviable from other shops at lower cost
but its perfect for me, mid 12s on the quarter and well under 5 seconds to 100ks
enough power to lose my licence and car be impounded all in just a few seconds
people may say walkys a ripp off, so and so are half the price ect ect
i just wanted my car tuned and modified properly, if i was short of cash i might have gone elsewhere
also the walkinshaw package adds value to the car, no other performance package i know of was an option on new Holden commodores at a holden dealer , for me it was peace of mind, have read many horror stories of bad tunes, work done, misfiring, rough running, stalling ect
and the backyarder taught tuner does not want to know about it, or fix or help you
then its extra money going to another tuner to fix it
rather than risk a cheapo sam or cons custom self taught tuner speed shop
i would rather spend the money on a proper engineered package, than deal with shite from blackburn ace turners that could not even tell you cam lift or valve spring seat pressures
