This my be a helpful calculation and an old youtube from pir4te 3.27 vs 3.45
(New diff ratio/Old diff ratio) x Old Highway RPM = New Highway RPM Example: If your car had 3.27 diff and sat on 1700RPM at 100km and you put 3.7's in it. New highway RPM: (3.7/3.27)x1700=1923RPM

I've been there done that with my old VE SSv A6 changed the diff gears from 2.92 over to a 3.45. Positives are outstanding performance. The negatives are no cruising around rev rev rev also exhaust droning making 3.27 a better option. This is only my opinion

I have a VF1 man with a 3.45 diff. It can get to 100km/h in second gear. If I put a 3.7 or 4.1 diff in I would need to change to third to get to 100. I'm not sure if that would then be much of an advantage. Of course, that would only win a race to 100, but not anything else. (Horses for courses I suppose)

I guess with our lowish speed limits (for good reason) higher ratio would be good for acceleration while not really hindering the ability to cruise with good fuel economy. Only downsides I can see is a long straight on track or top speed records being less attainable.

Have many gone up/down from stock in their vf2?

3.7 manual ratio seems pretty good for higher power levels, maybe higher ratio for basic mods would be good but I find 1st and 2nd a little short already. anyone gone less than 3.7?

I changed my 3.27 ratio a6 to 3.45 then to 3.9 wavetrack. I run a aftermarket cam and 3700 rpm stall. 3.9’s are a bit short over the quarter mile and sees the car nudging over however the car has run a tenth quicker (11.44 @ 119mph) than the 3.45s. It will hold decent revs ~5000 in 4th during a burnout and will spin thru 5th at speed up a hill. Not bad for a NA ls3 with stock compression and heads. I would recommend 3.7s in an A6 daily for best quarter mile ETs. I went 3.9s due to some extra flexabilty with side wall and diameter with street radials but I unless your changing wheels while at the strip as I do 3.7s for a modified NA daily A6 is a good ratio. I didnt notice any advantage from 3.27 to 3.45 the difference was in the 100ths not 10ths. Not sure about the manual ratios I cant comment much except to say I owned a stock vf1 ss manual before I got the vf2 and first was too long imo
