I'm sure this has been addressed before and if someone can point me to the thread then excellent. However, does the factory use a full synthetic? Also what would be your oil recommendations? Will have oil and filter changed at 7000km prior to touch up of tune.

I was told to use the oil HSV use as the LS3 was a HSV engine. I think they use Mobile 1

Hey Jarp;
I had the dealer change the oil and filter at the 1000k check, they recommended and used Mobil 1. Granted I've only put on another 700k since, but she's running beautifully.

Mate, its a Gen4 V8, theyre all the same. Theres no special HSV oil. They probably just write HSV on the bottle in pen to sell it to idiots - like we used to cross off Toyota/Holden and write Lexus/Chevorlet when morons came in.

Each dealer has their own supplier of oils. As long as it fits within the spec.

My local uses Mobil and when they ran out of Mobil, theyd buy Penrite off us.

Here's my thought - the GM specified Dexos 1 full synthetic is damn cheap ($48.86 for 5 litres) and should there be ANY problem with the engine they cannot dodge the bullet as you've only used the exact specified-by-GM product. There may or may not be better full synthetics for the car, but they'll be nudging double the price so the question is - are they twice as good? Hmmmmmm...

Change at 3000. Then every 7500 after that. Maybe wait until 7500 until using fully synthetic Mobil one is a good oil

Oils aint oils – understand the viscosity index and operating temperature that best suits your engine and use the best brand you can afford.

And always change it and the filter sooner rather than later.

I’m a Penrite fan myself.
