Put 10mm spacers between the rear bar and body, this will allow the spats to sit where they should.

Close up of the factory fit of the spats on my Calais. They really are not a great fit when you look closely.

Picture of my old VP Calais (HSV Enhanced). Colour looks white but it was actually gold metallic. Great car, the auto gear change was superb and fast, unlike the slug-like gear change in the 4L60e autos.

I have the twin to your VP mine doesnt have the boot wing though.
What HSV options did your car have/, did it have the HSV enhanched badge on the dash?
