heres an interesting pdf, i found it a while ago. it lists all the gearbox versions for each model commodore. i think the numbers on the box, eg. 4hdd, 6hsd, etc. denote the type of gearbox, 4l60 or 4l60e, floor or column shift, supercharged, and in general, are just labelled after each update. ie, they fix a niggly problem in one version, it gets a new label, so you know it doesnt have that problem

The LB9 is the V8 engine code. LG2 is just a 3.8L V6 code.

The VT has the largest group of engine codes in the VIN. EG the VN has a H for a V6 or a U for the V8 or K for the Group A.

A VT can have - H, U, L, M, N, P & F. Thats a 3.8, 5.0, 5.7 (Holden) 5.7 Gen3. The N is a 195i engine........

i dunno if this is true but i have herd that if u replace the auto in the car (vn/vp) then u have to replace it with an auto with the same number??? i doubt.. but i do remember reading this somewhere

i too will like to know what is the differance with the differant numbers?

We had a vp box in a vn untill it packed it in so now it has a vn box back in it.

I have a Series 1 3.8L Buick with a shift kitted auto in it, and I have a series 2 3.8L Buick with 5spd Manual. Series 1=Sedan, Series 2=Wagon. the Series 1 is a 4.2L stroker and I wanted to put it in wagon with 5spd behind it. This could not be done because series 1 and series 2 both have different input/output shafts on the gearbox/transmission.
