VR auto ute Starting Problem!

hi guys im having trouble starting my vr commodore ute, when i turn the key all i get is a clicking noise i suspected the starter motor so replaced with a second hand one and still had the same problem so then i checked the voltage at the starter motor (which i should of did first before replacing) and had 12 volts there while it wasnt on the i had 0 volts there when i tried to turn it over which im assuming isnt right... also checked the battery seemed fine was sitting at 12.4 volts but when i tried to turn it over it had about a volt voltage drop can anyone help im stumped?

Last time i could not start my VR i had gear in Drive lol

Did you change anything before this happend?

dash lights flicker? .. all the time or just whilst turning over?
assuming battery is OK (you checked under load)
Could be a bad earth?....

The dash lights only flicker when when I try and turn it over it's just all the warning lights that come on... And yeah I tested it under load that's when I was getting the voltage drop of like 5-6 volts what's the best way to check for a bad earth, continuity through the cable to chassis or check if there is any resistance through the cable to chassis? I also ran a positive lead straight to the positive terminal on the starter motor and tried to turn it over and was still having no luck...

I would try changing the battery with someone else, as it is sounding like a collapsed cell in the battery.

5 - 6 volts drop? From memory you shouldn't get that much?

As for checking the earth, just run a link from the neg to a bolt on the block

Is it a big deal if I use a battery that has 50 extra cold cranking amps?
