Hence the question how did you break it...
They just break, because .................. they can.
You can / could still buy them.
I made up 3 replacements from coat hanger wire when mine broke. Bit of trial and error to get the right shape.
The problem I have now, can somebody tell me where I put the 2 spare ones ?

Hi, coat hanger sounds good. I would think the actuator rod is stiffer?

I have googled, but haven't seen a VR rod. I haven't asked Holden, yet.

Use one coathanger to get the general shape, then add 2 more (or as many as needed) to bulk it up.
