ecu runs it for 1.5 or 1.7 seconds to prime (or there abouts i forget the exact number). once the engine is turning and the oil pressure builds up enough the oil sender switches power to the pump, cranking the engine is enough to get the oil pressure up enough to do this even if the engine doesn't fire.

there's another thing to check, the oil pressure sender in case that has crapped out
The oil pressure switch has nothing to do with the fuel pump running, unless the ecu does not turn on the relay.

and the way he tested it then it would have something to do with it.

anyway that was a reply to
I am sure it only primes once when first turned on (Reds) for a few seconds but the pump will not run while cranking, only once the motor has started will there be power to the pump....
to explain that if the ecu isn't turning the fuel pump on the oil pressure switch will while the engine is being cranked over, if the fuel pump doesn't run while cranking then the engine wouldn't start.

So the ecu will prime the fuel pump for 1.6 seconds at initial ign on position, if it doesn't fire, the oil pressure switch will turn the pump back on once oil pressure is high enough to switch it (when the red light goes out on the dash), once the engine fires and is doing more than 300 rpm the ecu will turn the relay back on, cranking the engine on the starter motor is usually about 200 rpm.

anyway, instead of running wires look for the problem, start at the battery and work your way to the pump following the wire at every join/plug with the multimeter...

Herein lies the problem...you can't test for power because it's only there for 2 secs...for the pump prime cycle - that's why you HAVE to bridge the relay.
This also negates the oil pressure switch which is routed thru the relay...and the relay itself.
Saves a lot of cold cranking and the need to have someone else there.
The test for power at the fuel tank plug tells you which direction the problem is...either towards or in the fuel tank or back to the battery.

The fuel pump is primed for starting...I don't think it runs while you're cranking anyway...but I could be wrong. :)

To make a safe bridge and avoid sparks, wire a couple of male spades onto a switch.

Fully sik manualised relays, mate.

Hey all, I have a problem with my fuel pump, it's not getting any power to it so I'm gonna run some new wires, can any one tell me where the wires run, I've gotten under the car and looked at the wires and they seem to disappear up the top of the tank?
How much it’s cost you for repairing the wire which is connected to fuel pump?

Are you sure your pump isnt F***ed?? A good way to test it is to wire up 2 wires 1 to positive and 1 to earth and try directly connect it to your pump and see if its working… If not then by the sounds of it the wires could be running up the top of the tank and run through a grommit in the ground or something. Go into your boot and have a look under your boot carpet and see if theres any wires poking through.
Hi yesterday my car was not starting at all after park and then went car inspection and they told they need to replace some crank of engine but they changed it they find out wire issue near to fuel pump they search it and they didn’t find it. The car is French 2006 Peugeot model. Can you pls tell what’s the cost estimation for changing wire issue in fuel pump and brake light of wire issues as well?

This thread is 11 years old and related to commodores. Peugeot isn't well know on the forum, but if your mechanic isnt knowledgeable, best find a European specialist.
