If the engine is not overheating then it don't matter whether the gauge reads 1/2 or 3/4 when the fan kicks in. The gauges and sensors are not precision items and only give an indication of what's going on. It's just like "normal" operating conditions.....what would that be?... in Darwin or Hobart, summer or winter.
My opinion, FWIW, is the same as others have stated above: keep the cooling system in top operating condition and watch the gauges for anything "out of the ordinary".
