HI guys this may sound dumb but how can u tell if its a lsd or not.
1) look under your car, see if there is a tag hanging off the diff oil filler plug saying "LSD: USE APPROVED LUBRICANT ONLY"
2) do a burnout and see if you leave 2 black lines.
3) jack up both back wheels, put it into neutral, turn one wheel and see if the other wheel turns the same way (LSD) or if it turns the opposite way (single spinner).
note that with the above method, if your LSD is completely buggered it will act like a single spinner.
yeah what he said. do a stand still if u only got 1 black line u aint got lsd if there's 2 u do. i want lsd. i think calais come out with em i herd i dunno.
my tag say's "HIGH PERFORMANCE LSD"
unfortunatly calais didnt come standard with em, i got single leg:supersad:
wat about 1995 HOLDEN COMMODORE VS Executive do u think that would have a lsd...
unless it was chosen as an option it probably will jus be a single spinner
oh ok... which is better you guys think and can u buy a lsd for that model vs
yeah go wreckers. maybe ebay i got an executive and yer no lsd.
another way to tell if u hav LSD is to check the metal plate on ur firewall
it will hav a code next to "axle"
LSD - G88
OPEN - GU4
but always a chance it could have been swapped out or changed, so do the burnout option :yeah:
what does a diff usually cost to install? and is it big? like would ya need more than a ute to pick it up from tha wreckers to tha mechanics?
Should fit in the back of a ute of worries. Just run a tape measure across what you've got now and compare that to the space in the ute tray.
I replaced the diff in my old VK some years ago now. Just did it in the driveway with a couple of stands and spanners / sockets. The hardest part was probably undoing the nuts that had been on there for donkeys.
It was a bit time consuming...took most of an arvo to do it but with two of us it wasn't too hard.
Not sure on the cost to get someone to do it. Wouldn't think it would be too much though...especially when they can put the car up on a hoist. Probably a few hours labour if you supply the diff.
