I'm getting a shudder through the steering wheel when braking hard, like the discs need machining. Is it those stupid oil filled strut bar rubbers that are kaput?? If so how much to replace?

Front discs are near new BTW.Acclaim series 2 has 140K on the clock.

TIA

If the rotors are new - how are the tyres? No plat spots or bubbles in the tyres? Simple test is to put the rears on the front.

sounds like your rotors mate. Dont bother with machining them just spend $120 and get some slotted ones. IMO :D

EDIT: just read your post more carefully, agreed with 88greenvn swap them around

the stock replacement rotors arent very good, perhaps get some slotted ones to reduce the chances

could it be possible that the rotors are warped already, or have some sort of defect

No, it will be the usual bedding in being screwed up. => new discs and bed them in properly i.e. don't stop with your foot on the pedal with the brakes hot until they have gone through a heat cycle and left a film of pad material on the disc. Search "Stoptech" for a proper explanation.

If your rotors are new, and your sure that they arent defective... then your front radius rod bushes are most likely worn out. you will get alot of play on the front end and it feels like your rotors are warped under heavy breaking. Its best to get all your front bushes replaced. I have had all my front end bushes changed with nolthane bushes a couple of months ago for about $350, i dont know if thats a good price or not, but i could definitely tell the difference as i also thought that my disks needed machining.
I dont get any shuddering under breaking anymore.

Don't go to pedders!.. A few bushes in my front are worth $800. What are they dipped in gold.
