Hi all,

I just bought a new battery as my old one (4 years old) was cactus.

The CCA was down to 229 (on a 600 CCA battery).

The battery warning light was coming on occasionally before the swap, but now is coming on much more often.

I changed the regulator on the back of the alternator last year, and the voltage meter is showing between 13.7 and 14 V even when the battery light is on.

Any suggestions?

Cheers,

JG

I'd be leaning toward the rest of the alternator then - the regulator is only half the story.

Maybe get an auto-sparky to check it out to really nail it down otherwise you may spend a bunch of money when it's something simple.

A diagnostic should only set you back $50 or so.

Hi All

How did you test the CCA rating ???

Typically 13.7-14 is a small top up to the battery , 14.4/14.6 is pretty much the safe maximum, 15 is overkill

Check the easy and cheap stuff first,

* fan belt slippage
* partially burnt alternator feed wire
* good battery terminals
* good connection main feed to starter motor
* good earth mounts

At this stage it is easy enough to temporarily swap a know good battery for 5m ins into your car and see what happens to the light

The battery place checked the CCA with a load meter? Some sort of computerized device that shows voltage, CCA, ans such.

The battery is new, and the terminals are good.

I will check the rest on the weekend (I leave for work at first light and get back after dark during the week).

Thanks for the advice.

Cheers,

JG
