When you change the Tank units,
the Gurage needs to be recalibrated,
And its best to do this when the Tank is full, so it will display the correct quantity of fuel, in your case from 70L to 75L.
If its not Full, some times they work out the resistance of t he unit, and then calculate what HOW MANY LITRES should be in there, unfortunately that's not accurate.
Maybe best to run the tank to almost empty, and then re-fill it,
and see how much you have pumped in on the Bowser,
Assuming when the needle is on the empty mark, that should be 10 litres remaining, and hypothetically 70 > 80 k's till empty.

Thanks for the reply so i bought the Goss fuel pump module GE176 for the series 2 which my vy is, how do i go about recalibrating it? i had a professional mechanic put the vy up on a hoist and he installed the new goss fuel pump module ive never done a recalibration personally how would i go about doing that ? please dont tell me the tank needs dropping out and the unit pulled out? attached is the exact module i bought.

You don't need to drop the tank,

However, it needs to be done with a Tech2, or similar high end unit.
I would of thought your mechanic would have done it,
Or use your original Tank Sender unit [if that was not faulty] that would be matched/calibrated to your car.
Do you still have it ?, if so, hang on to it.

Tech2 units [aka: Scan Tools] what the Mechanics use to interrogate the cars systems,
Scanning for DTC Codes, Resetting DTC Codes, Programming, etc, etc.
