I've read about the lifters failing.
Shaun from MotoringBox owned a VTII Calais which has documentation of its LS1 being rebuilt under warranty, and this issue and was so widespread with the early LS1 that they had specialist engine builders at Holden dealerships... However not every VTII did not get their engines rebuilt so there are probably some still around with this issue...

The sad thing is that the LS engines in general were known to suffer from piston slap and lifter issues... Yes the engines are reliable but these things are very expensive to fix and shouldn't be commonly failing...

If a VT II (which is now some 25 years old) is still running now, with or without piston slap, then it is probably good to go.

Yeah slap is very common. A non issue though in most cases, just let them warm up before you give them a hard time.

Tight is dangerous and loose is fast, as they say…

Let’s not forget the LS is one of the greatest engines made in the last 25years.

Every engine on the planet is going to have some say there a know issue or there’s a problem.
