Hi there, When I turn left I get a bang noise from my left rear wheel and when I straiten up it occurs again, example entering and leaving a roundabout. I jacked up the rear and pulled on the rear left wheel and lt moved in and out about 5 mls. The right wheel is solid with no movement. Any ideas what is wrong or how to fix this or is it just normal ware. Any advice will be appreciated.

Make sure the spare is tightened up. It might be a bit loose and shifting.

Early Tonners had a rear sway bar. Make sure it’s well clear of the exhaust and chassis. If it is super close, look to replacing the bushes.

Make sure there’s nothing in the tray that is sliding around.

Ok thank you. I will check all that, could it be bad wheel bearings.

Thanks, I think I may have found the problem. The rear sway bar, the 2 main bushes are flogged out and the right and left sway bar links are very worn. I can move everything by hand. I that is not the problem they have to be changed anyway.

The sway bar links are super hard to find when listed as VY VZ tonner rear sway bar links. However they appear to be used on other cars and are cheap to buy and quick to change.

I don’t recall which car it was that had them though.

I’ll try have a look, pretty sure I had a thread about them.

… I don’t.

I have one to show you thanks to @krusing

The VZ and VY rear sway bar links are 190mm links. That’s the same as Mazda 323, Ford Laser KN and KQ front sway bay links. Same 10mm stud too.

For the record the factory thread size for the sway bar bolt on the diff is 10mm 20 TPI (not metric thread)

Anyone know what that size would be? It doesn’t fit any of my thread checkers other than an M10 but won’t thread in. So I have my SAE pitch gauge which shows 20.

Surely must be a variety of M10 if it's 10mm. Sounds like M10x1.25 (fine)
