Hello, I was asked by a mechanic to get the Transmission code for my 2006 VZ SV6 Ute, the plate under the bonnet said " Trans M30" then I crawled under the car and found 4 letter and maybe a number raised towards the front on the driver's side on the top side of the transmission, on the angel I was looking at it, was really hard to make them all out, it looked like " GMPT " or could of been " 6MFT "

I was really hoping that somebody here could confirm the correct code for my 4 speed transmission

Are you sure it's an SV6? I thought they came with the 5 speed auto and the high output V6, unless it's due to being a Ute, and not a sedan...

Did the SV6 utes come with the 4L60e or the 5L40e? I think the O.P has a base VZ ute with the LE0 rather than an SV6 with the LY7...

M30 is a 4L60e transmission. That is what is on his build plate.

As far as I know, all utes had the LE0 and 4speed trans. Even the Thunders, of which a work mate has and it’s an LE0 in there. No paddle shift.

04-05 was S
06 was SV6
07 was SVZ (?) I think I have that right.

All LE0
All 4L60e

All of the S pack and Thunder Utes seem to have the LE0 and 4 speed transmission, though the SV6 Utes seem to have the LY7 and 5 speed, with the paddle shift feature...

Either way, if OP has M30 stamped on the build plate, he has a 4L60e transmission.

The build plate will also have the engine type. It will be stamped LE0

Hello, thank you for the reply's, I really don't know if it's a SV6, it's just a 6 cylinder ute, there are no marking on the ute to say what it is. I have attached a picture of the build plate if that any help, Regards, John

Thanks for the great advice, after the info you gave me I found this on the internet:

GM's alternative designations of these transmissions are:
  • 4L60E = M30
  • 4L65E = M32
  • 4L70E = M70
In fact, the "E" has now been removed, ostensibly due to the fact that all GM automatics are now electronically controlled and the distinction is no longer useful.

Thank You again
John
