Weird VE SS Auto Transmutation problem.

Please bear with me as I'm not a pro but I have come across a weird problem where nobody can actually pin point.

I took the car for a work organised track day at Eastern Creek. Now when I drove it around in normal auto and sports auto, the car "revs out" at about 140km and then just bounces the revs without going any quicker.

BUT

When driven in manual shift, it is unrestricted and goes further than 140km.

Have I got a problem with my transmission, a speed/rev limiter or something else/worse.

Any help will be appreciated. Thought id get some ideas from you guys before going to a pro.

Would it be a software problem or hardware IE needing a service?

service and a deep pan conversion might help a bit, 6l80e's have been known to flare from the factory though.
