Hello,

This week I noticed that the coolant temperature is 80 Celsius on highway (my speed is always 120 km/h) and it is 76 Celsius at idle.

Q1/ Does this indicate that there is a problem?

Q2/ Is it good or bad for the engine to have a low coolant temperature?

Here, the weather temperature is 20 Celsius.

the thermostat in the ve should be about 89 deg celsuis or 195f, if its lower then u might have a failing thermostat, when the engine is not at operating temp it will stay in warm up mode trying to heat it up to operating temp and will use more fuel because its cooler, i have a cooler thermostat in mine but i also tuned it to be running at the lower engine temp, the thermostats are easy to change in the v8 and can be a pain to bleed...

So what if it's always 100?

are u the v6 or v8 i see u have the sv6 on your ride so the v6 might run hotter than the v8, they pretty much since the vs or maby couple models earlier the factory thermostats have been 195f, they might have changed them to a little hotter for the ve with harsher emissions to pass, but if it sits there all the time then sounds normal...

The issue is if I give it a good run, then it boils the coolant...

My mechanic recons it's an50/50 mix ATM. So I was wondering if it's an issue, or do I just add more antifreeze/antiboil....

My cammed ssv sits on 89°C most of the time, will go up to 99°C with some spirited driving and 101°C if I turn it off after sitting idle for a while.
The factory temp gauge never moves..

You can't just say a 50/50 mix of coolant, you need to use demineralized water and messure for the right amount of glycol.

At idle you would think the temp would be higher then cruising at 120? That doesn't seem right to me.
Are you sure there is a thermostat installed?
Are you sure its 20°C? Its been pretty cold in NY.

At idle it sits at 100-105
With 'spirited' driving it's like 110. Then drops back to 105.

Ok well I'll do a coolant flush once I get it back from the panel beater,
And ideas on ratios then?
