Hey guys,

Just ”upgraded” from a Series 1 omega to a series 1 SV6 and I have a question about the operating coolant temperature.

I was driving the SV6 today and I noticed the radiator fans have been coming on a bit recently.

Did some investigating and the coolant was brown and sludgy, which I just presume is because it hasn’t been maintained very well.

I topped up the coolant and the reservoir and tried to bleed the air out of the system but it would not stop foaming.

Would flushing the system and replacing the coolant fix the foaming issue or is air entering the system (i.e. if the head gasket was blown)?

What would you guys assume in this situation.

Possibly not a head gasket,
But not saying it is either,

Alloytec’s are an unusual animal for bleeding the cooling system,
The thermostat may be stuck,

Drain the radiator,
If you can, connect a hose to one of the heater pipes from the thermostat,
Run water through the engine whiles it’s running,
And that will give it a good flush,
But be careful of the hot water being expelled.

Thanks so much man, I’ll give it a go, just bought a leak test kit to make sure I’m not in any big trouble.

I’ll give it a go in the coming days.
