There all 3.6l V6s, there is only 1 model of V6 in the VZ and super cheap auto have never and will never have any idea what they are talking about, they are the stupidest staff out of the 4 big parts stores.

The alloytec is a sludgy engine, run 5-30 or 10-30 in it, the whole if its old run thicker oil doesn't apply to this engine because thicker oil will #### it faster, keep running 10w-30 until it explodes and if it leaks either fix the leak or put more 10w-30 in :p

Run some engine flush through it with the current oil then fill it with 10w-30.

3.6 Alloytec only run 5-30 no exceptions (if its leaking oil fix the leaks)
Unless you want to drop 2-3K on a chain and pump replacement
100% dont put the 20-50 syrup in it

yer went to search like you said ansers all over the place lol

I only went onto the Penrite site. It's my preference in oil & the site info easy to follow.

Anyway, uniacidz in another thread listed his prefererences based from his experience. Hopefully this will serve as a bit of a guide.

Thought i do a rundown on oils, oil filters, and additives i have used so far, as a reference for myself also.

Additives
Proma MBL8 Oil Additive
Note: Really like the stuff but think its overkill for the price.
Pro-ma Fuel and Oil Additives - Performance Products

Liqui Moly MOS2 FRICTION REDUCER
Note: I like it alot. Reckon made it quieter and smoother
LIQUI-MOLY Australia - MOS2 FRICTION REDUCER | 2781

STP Fuel System Treatment
Note: Worked a treat
STP Complete Fuel System Cleaner 155mL - Supercheap Auto Australia

Valvoline 2-stroke TC-W3 outboard oil
Note: Still in testing but results positive (100ml - 150ml max to a full tank)
Valvoline 2 Stroke Outboard Oil - 1 Litre - Supercheap Auto Australia

Decarb Engine -Waiting til prior to next oil change
Liqui Moly Decarb
Liqui-Moly Petrol Engine Intake Decarb - 366g - Supercheap Auto Australia

Oils to choose from
Have not tried but going in next.
Penrite 10w50
HPR 10 10W-50 (Full Syn) Upgraded

Currently

Got to remember as well that uniacidz is running a ls1 V8 not a alloytec V6 so the oil will behave differently because the engines and components are completely different.

All these opinions on what oil to use is confusing . besides after 30 yrs of driving all sorts of cars . I no holden fan . I had 9 models of Ford , 3 magnas , 3 Holdens all with their own special problems.

I just read the manual and use what the Manufacture requires . it's 10/30 I chose Nulon

Ive got VZ calais v6 190 high output. When it was 228k km i put 15/ 50 Penrite full synthetic. Now at 236k km i put Penrite 15/60... something about a + 10 and its the same as the 15/50.
PREVIOUSLY was a 1 owner and he put whatever Holden recommended, serviced by the one mechanic.
Im not sure but doubt timing chains are done, always worried about them going whilst i own it. Engine in recent times runs a touch over the 1/4 mark for temperature.
Anyone have any views?

As we have all said, you need 5-30 or 10-30 oil in a alloytec.

15-60 is just going to cause the engine to sludge up and sleaze or oil stave the top end and blow **** up.

Im worried now.
which one out of the two would be preferred given its at 236,000km?
Also, its not going to stuff anything up by swapping oil again?
Will buy new oil again with the Easter sales coming up.
