Good to see someone pushing the limits :)

245's up back?

Well you can fit a 255 35 20 to 8.5 x 20 wheels front and rear and that gives you a pretty wide tyre for grip. Measure it and the 275 tyres are only 8% wider. In other words very little difference ( other than the wank factor).

These will also fit well in the rear on a wide range of wheels without having to bend your rear guard lips that a 275 tyre on a 9.5 or 10 inch rear rim may require.

As Ducker said not everyone wants the bother and additional expense of modifying the bodywork on their car just to fit a new set of wheels/tyres.

Everyone here is just trying to be helpful to the original poster.

Thanks mate. And I'm assuming the guards have to be rolled and modified to fit 20x10's?

Any idea what offset is ideal if going for the 20x10's? Anyone?[/QUOT

Those wheels you posted are MHT Niche GT. They only come in limited offsets with the 5 x 120 stud pattern of the VE Commodore.
http://mhtwheels.com/cms_pdf/M133 GT.pdf

The highest offset you can get in the 20 x 10 wheel in PCD 5 x 120 is +35mm. With a 10 inch rim and that offset the edge of the wheel will sit virtually in line with the face of your rear guards. Hence with a 275 wide tyre fitted you will need to roll the rear guard lips right up for the tyres to clear.

The 8.5 inch wheel is also +35mm offset but you will not have clearance issues with those rims and 245 or 255 width tyres fitted.

The 10 inch wheel in the Niche GT is quite dished but bear in mind that the 8.5 inch design has very little - if any - dish to it. The 8.5 wheels are quite flat.

As you can see on these shots it is quite a nice wheel on a well lowered VE....(but neither of these cars are Calais)...............

If you want a 10 inch rear black spoked rim but do not want to have to roll your rear guards for tyre clearance you might want to have a look at these wheels, sold here in Aust by various outlets, from the Italian wheel company Zumbo. This is the VEIGE design .

I understand the 20 x 10 inch rim for the REAR is available in a +50 mm offset and, with 275 wide tyres fitted, the tyre should clear the rear guards without an need to roll the guard lips.

(You will find that many manufacturers selling one piece cast 20 x 10 inch wheels in the 5 x 120 stud pattern do not have these wheels available in offsets larger than +38 mm offset).

Mate, that PDF you attached showed the highest offset for the 20x10 5x120 is +40, not +35. Would that make it a better fit, and avoid having to roll the guards?

Nothing wrong with a good wankcessory haha. that's why I got the Alloy faced pedals!.

I agree too Cam, I don't want the extra expense or hassle, I'd rather a plug and play deal with wheels, at least then I don't need to worry about needing someone else to fit them, I can do it myself!. also since I'm looking at genuine HSV rims I'm already paying enough! :)

And the OP said he's new to it so I'd stick to a tried and true formula when going in first time. next car or down the track on this car go mental!.

Hey all, can someone confirm if a 20x10 with +45 offset will be a better fit for my rears than a +40? By better fit, I mean the chance I may not have to roll or modify my guards? Awaiting confirmation, but I may have found a set of identical Bavarias that come in a +45, or possibly +53 offset, and not sure if that would mean a better fit.

Thanks ducker85. So I'm guessing anything over 50P is ideal, and even between 45-50 is at risk of rubbing if slightly lowered?

53P won't be too close to the brakes or suspension though? Also, this may be a stupid question, but stud pattern 5x120.65 will not fit our VE 5x120?

53p is spot on. It'll clear the outter body and internal guards. Brakes shouldn't be an issue unless you have redline or HSV brakes.

120.65 is Chev or HQ Holden stud pattern and will break studs.

Rub depends on the tyre used. I presume you want 275's?

120.65 does "fit" but in no way would anyone recommend doing it, that been said, lot of guys in the states use Corvette PCD wheels on their G8's with no issues.

53 will be fine, brake clearance should be ok and won't touch the inner strut/suspension components.

grab a ruler, take for instance you have standard 8" +48 wheels now, 10" +53 will poke 20.4mm more than your existing setup, and be 30.4mm closer on the inner side.

go to: Online Wheel & Tyre Fitment calculator. Offset, Tyre stretch and Rolling Radius calculator, plug in the desired setup and it will give you all the info you need.

Thanks guys.

No big brakes, and no plans to in the near future. Yeah brasher, I'd be going 275's.

Is center bore also an issue to worry about? Stock VE Calais is 66.9 right? Does that mean the aftermarket wheels have to be the same?
