I just brought a new 2011 series 2 SV6 and everytime I start it up cold in the morning, I drive maybe 400 metres down the road, and it blows white mild smoke then all of a sudden stops. Is this normal ? Do I need it looked at ??

I’m not sure what to do about it

Help please

Is it actual smoke or condensate from a cold engine?

Does it use oil or coolant?

If the air temperature is low it's steam from damp in the exhaust.
In this case it will do it from startup. Jump out after starting it and stick your hand in it.

I grew up in a cold winter town so condensate steam was common and we all knew it as kids.

Saw a post on here from someone thought their car was on fire - but only for a bit each morning.

Thanks, what should I be feeling or noticing? if I start it up in the morning and put my hand in the exhausted?

Good question I haven’t thought of that I will have a look at that.

You mean you have purchased a second hand car and have never opened the bonnet to check the fluids?

If it's just pipe water you could get clear water on your hand or see some dripping from the pipe.

It's probably just steam which is normal for a few minutes when cold as people have said. Have a look if other cars in your street do the same thing when they start up in the morning.
