I fixed this issue on my VN (Calais looms) by drilling through the black globe holder and soldering a wire directly onto the top of the metal. (I removed the connector inside the globe holder and ran a wire right through the holder) The wires have a bad connection inside the black globe holder.

I fixed both my VN's this way in a few hours and have all rear tail and stop lights working very bright now.

it was mainly the black earth wires that were giving me grief - and the right indicator.

I went the wreckers today as the connections had corroded and would not work . When I got there every vn and vp sedan had those little brakelight harnesses already gone but I was lucky enough to to find one that the boot was locked shut and nobody was interested in trying to open it all except me that is. So I was smart enough to grab both so I had a spare. Now if you want I could send you my old one that only has one rusted socket. Then you might be able to make one out of the two then.
let me know.

It's best to fix them IMHO as it will come back in a few years anyway...crappy connection of wire to metal inside plastic cover corrodes...look with a torch and then drill and solder as above.
Or try googling "Electric Life" Melbourne. They were in Sydney Rd Coburg last time I checked, they probly still do them.
