3.7 ratio diff? What am I looking for?

Hey all. Everyday is a learning curve when it comes to cars with me. So here goes.

There has been some discussion in regards to diff/gears etc.. If I was to upgrade my VX V6 to a 3.7 diff/gears what am I actually looking for?! (to help with internet and ebay searches). Heaps of pictures on the web but I am a little confused. Thanks for any help/pictures.

the gears are called ''crown wheel and pinion''. try typing that and the word ratio with the numbers 3.7:1

go 3.4.5 or 3.5.5 LSD give you 20% increased acceleration... i got some quotes if your interested for these gears in my vn ss plus rebuild

You don't gain 20%, but maybe .2 over the 1/4 mile
