I got to the point where I just didn't enjoy smoking anymore, every time I lit up I felt like I was harming myself and would often throw the cigarette away after I'd smoked half of it.

Once I realised I wasn't getting anything out of it anymore I just stopped, cold turkey. For the first few months I'd occasionally get cravings, mostly when drinking, and I did have one or two cigarettes after I "quit", but 2 years later I haven't bought a packet since, I don't have any urge to smoke (drinking or not), I have enough extra disposable income I can take the fast toll road to work and sleep in 30mins extra, I don't smell like **** all the time, I'm notionally healthier, and haven't looked back.

Every now and then I'll have a drag of a mates cigarette just for old times sake, but always end up handing them right back because they just taste kinda foul now.

Car
good luck with it
it's a hard thing to quit
my wife and i gave up together just over 5 years ago using patches
only used the patches for about 2 weeks.
as an incentive to stay off them we decided to spend the money we would have smoked on buying stuff we wanted.
so far the money we would have spent on smokes has paid for
air conditioning the house,a plasma tv and a boat plus a whole lot of other stuff like renovations around the house and new furniture and appliances.

that has worked for us and we will keep doing that even though neither of us has a desire to ever smoke again

Good on you, well done, give them up. I gave up nearly two years ago. Giving up is the best thing you will ever do for yourself. So far I have saved nearly $16,000 in just under 2 years.

You will feel like crap for about 2 weeks and then things start to get better. Hang in there, find thnigs you need to do to keep yourself busy. Finish off all those jobs you started, polish all your shoes again, rearrange the cupboards anything that keeps you distracted and not thinking about smokes. But never kid yourself if you have been addicted once, you can easily be addicted again, the only way to kick the habbit is to stay away from them. As others have said - stay strong but don't beat yourself up, remember whatever crap you go through to get over the smokes, they did it to you.

You can beat them, I went on patches which worked well for me, some people say it didn't work for them.

I guess ultimately it's whatever works and gets you off the smokes, patches, medication, willpower whatever - as long as you give it up, you will always thank yourself for being free of them. I know I smoked for about 20 years - imagine what I could have done with the cash!!

to all those that have posted and actually given them up for good, well done! to the OP, you can do it man.... just keep plugging at it one day at a time. every day you dont smoke is one little step closer to never doing it again. even if you have a lapse, dont give up and think its too hard. your body (and your family) will thank you for it later.

and try not to use the patches and stuff for too long... don't dose your body 24/7 with the crap. cold turkey it as long as you can. you'll be busting for a drag during the first few weeks, but it'll pass. ween your body off the addiction as much as possible. the cravings will go away... trust me.

great suggestion about spending the money you save on something else. anything you love works best! games/car parts/porn/whatever!

Thanks for all the tips makes me feel like i can do this, really appreciate it ay, haven't had one still, gave my last deck away this mornin, so id have to buy some if i want one. The extra cash will be sweet if i can do this and incentive enough to stay off the things. Plus the missus will kiss me more and kissing sometimes leads to sex so no complaints from me lol. Its only been a day and feel ok but ill keep yas posted on how i go. Cheers again for tha tips. Dan
