Hospital trips are a normal part of our lives. Kid is a mess. That's why I'm so stoked he is good at mechanical things.

It’s also why the Crewman is such a great car for our fam. Wheel chair fits in and the tray is at a good height to do it. The LS is a tough motor that will keep on going and have a ready supply of mix and match parts for decades to come.

Also, I am hoping he and I can work on it together for father son bonding and stuff. I’d like that. He does so far.

Today:
Cleaned HVAC inlet ducts.
Wire brushed the wiper area under the windscreen.
Applied rust converter to various bits.
Started the headlining.

Handy video done by someone else on cleaning the evaporator core.

Got all the bullseye corrosion spots cleaned up. The metal seems to be galvanised (I think) I have two small wire brushes that I used to clean off the paint to expose the corrosion spots. A rough brush and a softer brush.

Worked a treat.

Also found three spots where the panel seals weren’t great. One spot had a hole that might make for a drip behind the dash in heavy rain. No evidence of it happening regularly though.

The two side areas were just where the sealant has perished a bit. A quick go over an all good.

Next was the HVAC inlet.
Removed the fan motor to gain access to clean in the inlet area. The area that goes up toward the wiper area. Much easier to reach from inside.

It was a bit how ya goin’

I shoved my phone up there to see what I was doing.

Then from there, unless you are fat as, you can get your arm up through there and to the right to get into the evaporator area. I was able to make the job easier by removing the resistor. I used a small hose attached to the vacuum first. Then a cloth. Then I sprayed APC through the resistor hole. Wiped it out again. Then sprayed sugar soap in and used a detailing brush to start working out the grot. Wipe and repeat. Used my phone to get photos as I went so i could see how I was going. Got lots of cuts and scratches, but chicks dig scars and all that.

Just needs an AC foam in there really. Remove the resistor and that’s easy enough. It’s better than it was.

Oh, and cleaned the fan too. Used apc and made sure to hold the motor carefully so the grot and water didn’t get into the motor.

So then I cleaned up the head lining. Brushed off all the old foam.

Then started to remove the insulation, which exposes the wiring loom.
The whole roof will be getting more significant insulation.

I am also adding upspec visors from Calais, Statesman. The cloth ones with the lights in them.

I did this in another car and it worked out great.

So I got a Calais roof loom. Which of course has a different wiring configuration.

So I have a solution...

I’m going to merge the two looms. Using the Calais loom has knobs on it.

So the pin outs are all different on the Calais loom.
Where the Calais loom plugs into the main harness has the same pin outs and an extra Violet wire where one isn’t on the SS harness.

The rear lights seem to
Be powered differently via the BCM and pinouts into the map light are different. That violet wire must be a BCM controlled earth.

I thought about repinning the Calais loom, but I now think just splicing in the visor part of the loom is easier.

I made lots of notes.

Measured the loom up.
Noted splices and take offs in the two looms.

Visor is Brown with black trace and earthed via black with blue trace.

On SS, Orange with black trace is the equivalent colour.

On SS, rear lights are powered off yellow with green for doors. Orange/black for light on and earthed through black/blue.

On Calais rear lights door is white with green trace, light on is brown with black trace and earthed through black with blue trace.

The visor is off the brown with black trace circuit.

So I’m going to separate out the visor wires from the Calais harness and join them into the SS loom using orange with black trace and black with blue trace.

I got this far today before cooking dinner.

250mm-350mm from harness plug is where the Wires are spliced out into multiples. Taped and bound together. Then at 370mm the visor loom branches off.
At 800mm the map light loom branches off.
At 1250mm the visor harness branches off.

There are printed marks on the roof liner for where the harness goes and insulation.

Local Holden Parts guy and all round legend has got a print out of the build sheet for this car. Very cool document.

Says what date and time various stages of its production build were completed. Time and date of shipment, and to where. Booran Holden. Has the date delivered to Booran Holden and the date it was first sold. 10th Jan 06.

Has a full service history.

Has all its codes etc. Trim levels. Goes on and on.
Did he just print it out for you or did you ask about it
