Had a bit of a possible win in regard to the drive shaft. So if you’ve been reading along, the rear drive shaft boot for the CV that bolts to the diff is rooted. I have a new one and it appears to be the same as VP and Ford Territory and Jeep Grand Cherokee. “Appears”

The other day I stumble on B & Z Auto Parts in the Sydneys.
https://www.bandzautopartsrepair.com.au/

Not only do they do Cross6 & 8 rear drive shafts, they do a heavy duty one that has the CV replaced with a uni joint.

Anyone familiar with the business?

I’ll be sorting something this week by the look.

I’m getting fkd around with the steering rack by a few businesses on line.

So I’ve found someone on the other side of Perth to rebuild what I have. Hydro Steer.

Will need to remove mine, where as I was planning on swapping it.

Also in other news, I’ve ordered a new tail shaft/ rear drive shaft that’s modified to get rid of the CV on the end where it mates to the diff.

It’s got a slip yoke and uni joint instead.

So that leaves me with a spare drive shaft with a torn boot and suss uni joint. I have a new boot VN/VP does it.
The rubber driveshaft coupling is in good condition. The centre bearing is fine. Just can’t see what’s the go with the CV on the back until I get the boot off.

However the back end is a way down the track.

Reinstall the front control arms. I need to join Facebook to achieve that. Uuurrggh. I’m not sure on reusing the bolts which have a torque spec of 360Nm! No way they will be going that right and we’re easy to undo with a 400mm extension bar. I figure FB would have someone who has done it and my wife can breath a sigh of relief because I use her account to shop Market place and join crewman groups.

Fkn FB. Uurrgh.

Then it’s front struts. All the bits are here.

Still trying to figure out removing the sway bar. Hoping I can remove the oil filter to get it free.

Front drive shaft to redo.

Then I move to the back.

Springs out and refreshed.
Thinking of adding in some urethane bushes into them? Thoughts?

Then tub off and overhaul the fuel tank and pump… Again… On another one.

Well today was 10 months in the making. Actually proper did something on the Cross8.

Removed the steering rack to get a freshen up. Hope I can get it across Perth next week to get sorted. Some 10-12hr days at work the last two weeks and next week might not be much different so will have to wait and see.

Assuming this is the original rack, though I have my doubts, there’s the part number. Rack has a W engraved on it so guessing it’s been done before.

Now I will clean that mount area up and get some paint on it.
It’s had a few leaks form and would prefer a set of eyes across it.

In answer to your question about bushes new Nolethane are better than the old stuff. They have reduced the density and they are not bad now. This is according to Kmart, who use them a lot.

All bushes will be Superpro. Have all of them. Front and back. I’ll drop the Superpro bush off with the rack and get them to fit it.

Went and picked up the rack. Seems like it’s been done well. I was recommended them by a steering parts supplier.

They cleaned it up nice. New seals, rack ends and silicone heat resistant boots. Some new o-rings for the cooler pipes.

Reused the tie rods because they are fairly new.

They cleaned up all the surface rust on the spindle. (The dust seal is removed for the moment.)

New SuperPro bush I gave them
is on.

They wire wheeled the whole rack body. I asked they not paint it.

I wanted to use some PPG Machinery Grey Epoxy on it but it was out of stock. I used this grey/khaki instead. I’m not too stoked with it, but it’s better than a silver. I think I’m going to be ok.

Tomorrows job is to get painting the Kframe that wasn’t accessible with the rack in.

Not sure if I posted it previous but I painted the Kframe in satin black epoxy. So this will finish it off a bit.

Finally! It’s here!
Fkn Aramex/Fastway

This arrived in Perth from Sydney on the 30th of September. It’s been at their depot ever since. I lodged multiple tickets with them. No action. I requested a pick up. No action. Wait for calls from them. No calls. Straight up, if I didn’t go there myself and get it, it would stay there for years.

So I just got in my car and drove to their depot in Welshpool. The girl there was casual as and with in a few minutes she came back with it.

Box was a bit how ya goin’. Did a quick check and all good inside.

This set up does away with the rear CV and has a slip yoke.

Here’s mine with a ripped up CV boot and suss CV. I have a new boot for it, so will give it a go over once the car is finished. I’ll have a spare then.

I noticed some grease nipples on the uni joint which I like.

Seems the same as the one on there. It’s built for the Cross8.
