Excellent find there Jecs . Regulation 7 is the one which covers such situations....

Essentially if the car must comply with registration standards unless it is being repaired or being tested in the course of being repaired, or being driven or towed directly to a place where it is to be repaired, or is a trailer. So the way I read it, if you are trailering your car to a carshow and claim it to be registered (eg display rego label and/or plates) then you can be defected. Trailer or not.

so basically, if a police officer wants to they can defect it unless you can prove to them you are taking it to a place to be repaired (of some nature)

wonder how long until the excuse is "there is obviously going to be some mechanics at a car show"

but i guess one thing could be used after a place like summernats/PCM/etc.
keep the blown tyres on the back, and say you are taking it to be repaired with new tyres?
technically (use this term lightly) the car is being transfered to a place for such repairs to take place as it doesnt say it specifically means a mechanics workshop or the like.

7. Non-compliance with standards for registration
(1) In regulation 819(2) of the Principal Regulations,
for "section 9(3) of the Act" substitute
"regulation 224(1)".
(2) At the end of regulation 819(4)(d) of the Principal
Regulations insert—
"; or
(e) the vehicle is being repaired, or is being
tested in the course of being repaired, so it
will comply with the standards for
registration; or
(f) the vehicle is being driven or towed directly
to a place where it is to be repaired so it will
comply with the standards for registration; or

just to clarify. that IS saying unless it is being taken somewhere to be roadworthy again it can be defected.

Well the Cop will defect it anyway and then you would have to convince a magistrate that the reason you were going to the carshow was to make your car once again roadworthy in order to invalidate said defect notice. Good luck with that one :p

not saying i would do such a thing =P
but you should understand that the calibre of society nowadays would probably try to use such a means of getting out of a situation

still wonder about if you keep the blown tyres on the back, if they could still potentially defect you then, as you are taking it to a place of repairs to make it roadworthy again.
would be good to find out about that.
