Excuse my ignorance but if the 210kw LFX V6 engine in the SV6 is the same as the 240kw LFX in the Camaro isn't the difference in max power output down to the tune progammed into the ECU?
No not only that. There are other small differences in air intake, exhaust, tune etc etc.
Would be interested to see how many killer whales the Camaro engine import would put out when installed in a VE with everything else left original Holden spec.

Holden detuned US supplied engines for years. First LS1 had 225kw IIRC which was a good 20kw less than in the US for the same motor.

I've always wondered why they've done this? Australian Fuel quality? Holden being considered a lesser brand?

In my estimation they detuned the first LS engines mostly for marketing purposes A) because the step up from the old Holden 5 litre to the LS was too large and B) that way they can release the “new and improved model” with 5kw more than the previous model with just a tune change.

Yup. Holden would have had different power to weight targets. They did say they detuned the original LS so they could release subsequent models with more power.

On top of our **** fuel standards down under requireing a more conservative tune, the desire for Holden to detune the old tech they sell so they have an upgrade path in following years models and the real fact that SAE HP =/ DIN PS expalians why adds in one country as compared to another country can quote different power levels
