Is it illegal to dump the exhaust at the diff??

I thought the law was, the exhaust must exit past the rear most opening window... Meaning dumping at diff = legal?

My exhaust rubber broke & dropped my exhaust on my diff and crimped it down to under 1" and its crackling real bad an running real ****.. I cant afford a new exhaust.....

Cheers

Yeah as far as I knew it had to be over the diff, but I don't know by how far.

You wouldn't be paying for a new exhaust if you took that in though, they'd be able to do something for you. Do you have a muffler at the rear that youd be losing if you chop it anyway?

I know on utes its legal, not sure on sedans because as far as im aware it had to pass the rear bumper to prevent exhaust gases entering in the boot.

Thats what ive heard anyway.

i'm sure greenfoam looked into this a while ago and the conclusion was that it had to exit after the boot cause there are vents in the side of the boot which could possibly allow fumes into the passenger cabin etc. i'm putting slip joints on the V8 after the flowmaster mufflers so on track days i can drop the exhaust after the mufflers befor the diff etc. might just leave em off and only fit em for the WOF but i'm sure thats not legal here either but it's only goingto be a toy car so it's not going to be driven every dya anyways

Any thing non standard is a defect,Dumped at the diff wouldn't be legal in my view i would contact Transport s.a or the such in your state and ask them.

the 40cm sounds familiar to me also, just call vic roads and see what they say.

i think the term is that it has to be x mm away from the last passenger compartment or something like that.
