The Sudanese that have come to Australia ARE from the South of the *old* country and ARE predominantly christian. They are actually part of the persecuted christian minority in southern Sudan. When most of them arrived here, the south hadn't been given independence yet (occurred July 2011). Sudanese Australians are generally from the region that is now South Sudan.
