Sorry to bump an old thread. Just serviced mine tonight on my VZ Calais and wanted to say thanks! Flippen awesome instructions and made it easy for me to follow. Saved me some coin tonight that's for sure!!

Why didn't Holden put a drain plug in?

Pretty standard for most manufacturers now. Drain plugs have been eliminated, as it encouraged dodgy mechanics to do a transmission "service" without removing the pan, cleaning it out and replacing the filter. Also, probably saves about $2.

Excellent post, and additional advice.
I might just add a final footnote
"Leave boots at door on way to informing other half that job has gone according to stated plans despite her misgivings"
(Old, dirty oi is bloody hard to remove from a carpet)
Cheers all

Any mechanic worth his wage has a vacuum pump...

Great thread. Helped me change the transmission fluid, filter and that tiny o ring for the first time. Was very nervous removing the o ring, but a small sharp point flathead screwdriver and a gentle tap with hammer (pointing the shaft into the circle) followed by pliers did the trick. Nb...the o ring was much smaller than i expected.

Are plastic dump valves that tend to break after a while hard to replace?
