Welcome to Just Commodores, a site specifically designed for all people who share the same passion as yourself.
Not as bad because what goes up, has to come coasting down, so is a wash
Makes a fair difference to my bus. On the mainland I was getting 10-11 litres per hundred km. On my way to and from work I get 15-16lph.Not as bad because what goes up, has to come coasting down, so is a wash
Depending on the hill...Some hills I wouldn't dare coast down.....
One in particular is a 90KPH (55MPH) speed limit...I go back to 3rd for the complete 7K downhill run.....From memory it's a 10%gradiant and right at the bottom is an intersection right on the edge of city traffic....Be fagged if I'm going to coast down that
So you use just as much, if not more fuel going down that hill, as you do going up
If it's EFI it should fuel cut when engine braking. On an older commodore you might need to manually downshift one gear in an auto transmission.
Our roads are windy and hilly. Perfect recipie for guzzling petrol.
But you should be downshifting and letting the engine do the work on the downhills. Saves on brake pads too.
