Unexpected Downtime

Just thought I'd give you a quick heads up on what took place late Friday night up until earlier this afternoon.

JC had been hit by a DDoS attack Friday night which basically stopped the site from functioning, exactly why I don't know obviously someone got peeved for some reason.

We have taken some measures to prevent from this happening although at this point in time too early to tell.

If the site goes offline unexpectedly you know why.

Sorry about this, in the time the site has been running and for those long term users never in the history of JC been attacked like this although we have experienced outages like any web site.

The unfortunate part being there was no access to all of the email addresses to let everyone know.

No members were used, just in excess of 10,000 connections from different IP addresses, the upstream provider couldn't handle it and started impacting on internet access from what I can gather.

The connection to the site was removed to stop the attack so the connection went nowhere.

I am not aware of anything happening Thursday, the site generally goes off around 2:30 - 3:00 for the morning database backup.
