Is the current minimum age of 16 to obtain a drivers license suitable? No.
If NO, what is?
18-20. 16 year olds are to immature and don't take driving seriously and are not responsible enough to abide by the law.
South Australia has minimum requirements to move from a Learners Permit to a Provisional License. Should these requirements be increased in S.A? No.
Explain your answer:
If the minimum age to obtain a learners permit gets put up, then no. If u have 2 drivers, one a 16 year old, one a 20 year old. Both have just got their Learners permit. After 6 months of learning the ropes, the 20 year old driver would of gained alot more knowledge and skills then the 16 year old. Why? Because he would be more mature and responsible, and a lot more sinks in, where as with the 16 year old, it goes in one ear and out the other.
Other states in Australia restrict Learners and ‘P Platers’ from driving high powered and high performance cars. Should South Australia do the same? Yes. If u have a 202 or an LS1, they can both get to 200km/h. The difference, and the ingredient which makes the high powered car a lot more dangerous, is that it can reach that high speed in a short amount of time. The 202 barely has enough power to break traction taking off around a corner, the LS1 would break traction (both wheels) and u could end up hitting a car, up a curb, in someone's front yard. Young drivers are too immature to be driving powerful cars full stop.
