Had a second look at the GMH factory manual. The internal parking brake shoe adjuster is to be set to give a shoe assembly OD of 159.5mm before the disc is replaced.

After assembly the routine adjustment is to be made with the threaded rod.

There should be a rubber bung in the backing plate behind the adjuster.

My vt has rear discs. They have that hole at the bottom(?) for hand brake adjustment. Do this first then the adjuster in the cabin.
In the backing plate or the rotor?

Just looked at the workshop manual. I thought the adjustment was from the rear of the backing plate.
Actually, looking at the diagram, l think l do remember something about the rotor. Can't copy the diagram though.

6. Remove the access hole plug. Using a
suitable lever such as a screwdriver, tighten
the park brake shoe screw adjuster, until the
disc is locked. Access to the screw adjuster is
through either one of two holes provided in the
disc.
7. Loosen the adjuster 3 - 5 clicks, then check
that the disc is free and does not drag.
Replace the access hole plug when the
adjustment procedure has been completed.

Gregory's have pretty much the same procedure as the GMH factory manual. They say adjust the handbrake shoes to an OD of 159.3 to 159.7 mm then refit the discs.

I'll guess I'll find out what's correct when I have to replace the handbrake shoes- but that may not be for another 20-30 years.

There is no access hole on the backing plate or rotor you have to do it before installing the rotor.

Only holes are the ones for the axle and the handbrake lever mechanism.
