Lake Macquarie Mobile Mechanics...

Nope, i'm not even going to bother with him, i cannot even get in touch.. they don't answer anymore.

When they replaced my 2nd radiator... they left my intake pipe, guard that sits above radiator & engine covers in the front yard amongst stones in the garden as apparently they had to 'tend to another client first'.

My girlfriend left them for 5 minutes while she picked me up after work and i got home to them dumping it there and leaving.. i had to pick stones and clean dirt out of the intake.. before they got back.. i had to go to another job (i do computer repairs around Newcastle also) so i wasn't able to express my opinion to them as i left before they got back.

I ONLY got them back because i wasn't able to locate any holes in the radiator but it was clearly leaking from somewhere.. and thought it was a warranty replacement and they took it before i could get a look at it after stating it got a 'big ass hole' in it.. where they stated it was.. i looked there.. as i pulled half it out myself and took the radiator fans off before calling them to check.

I will never go back to them again, i would rather pay a towe truck or in the right situation NRMA will towe me for free.

Yeah, Thats what i have noticed, I still havn't found a mechanic that doesn't want to rip you off.
If i knew i could take my car to a mechanic and wouldnt get a phonecall saying i did an engine service and new oil filter
thats gonna be $458 or whatever...I would take it there no problems i wouldnt even think about lifting a spanner
I also hate that they think they have to charge you a shitload more if you get parts through them...I dont mind paying for the labour @ $80 to $100 an hour
For example the other day when i got my radiator, a radiator shop wanted $295...
So i went and seen my mates old man and got EXACTLY the same radiator for $150..
Why the extra $145 to order it, when a phonecall costs 49 cents...

Grrr gives me the shits

Yep, it pisses me off of how frequently it happens.

It also pisses me off when we get miss quoted.. eg. My girlfriends Holden Barina service was due and i know she needed an alignment, when i was booking the service @ Holden they said "we have a promo atm for a wheel alignment for $25 if you get it done when its getting serviced" i was like sweet and said yeh go ahead.

When my girlfriend got home and i finished work.. she said all they did was a 'wheel alignment check' and nothing more, also noting the wheel alignment is still heaps out so i don't know how they checked it but they failed.

As i didn't get the girls name @ Holden... i couldn't ask who quoted me the alignment instead of a 'check', plus the fact they didn't actually do anything.

Well an update.

Just got off the phone from ATS, its going to be just below $3600 to fix for a rebuild/repair.

He states there are a number of worn items but mainly the clutch plates are heavily worn/fragmented off and the torque converter is full of metal shards along with a number of the solenoids failing and other things.

He said as long as they can get the parts ordered it should be done by Wednesday next week.

He will give me a part-by-part itemized invoice and has 12 months/20,000km warranty.

Sucks balls as I was using some money off my card to try and move... doesn't look like that will happen.

Yep the reverse problem is pretty widespread in these type of transmission, just google 5L40E reverse and you'll see what i mean, happened to a heap of BMW's too, whoever thought of 'sealed' transmissions should be shot, this is coming from someone who spent $4200 for a full recondition, at 80k ODO, same sort of stuff replaced as you t/c soleniods clutch bands etc, i never had the reverse issue but MAJOR slippage and if you google 5L40E chuggle had that too in high gears, whenever I put minor pressure on the acc pedal in 5th gear it would shunt quite violently, not very safe when cruising at 110. Look on the bright side, when its done it drives like a new car :) just remember trans services ever 20k

Yeh it seems a bit of a gamble with this transmission.

My next question was going to be how long between services of the trans?

Once I get some more money I'm going to install an additional trans cooler... noticed if engine gets warm it heats the trans up and vice versa.

Deferlentley 20k service on these types of trans and try driving around in 3rd gear while under 80-90 kph because unless you have the trans returned via the computer it will be slecting 4th and 5th gear while you are light on the throttle abround the 60 to 90 kph mark. Try it for a couple of weeks and see how you feel, you "might" spend a couple of dollers extar at the pump but I think a few dollers extar at the pump is a lot better then your total bill at the moment for all the bull s@# and frustration you and your girlfirend have been put though with every top dick and harry stuffing you around. Oh and if your woundering where I get my information from my uncle has been a performance machanic and dyno turner for the last 25 -30 years. And this is how I drive my VZ Alloytec and mine is up to 130000km and has not missed a beat and I it redlining at 7000RPM with no problems at all. Hope this helps

Im pumping over 500nm through the standard 5 speed with no problems at all. Had the trans serviced at 150k and now am up to 190k. You win some, you lose some. No sights of slipping, and fluid is still bright red.
