We have discussions for every other regular activity in our lives, so why not share something you though was cool and out of your regular work day.
Rules: can't be active in this thread and the retirement thread simultaneously.
Also, be aware of your workplace policies and what you can and cannot share. I don't want anyone getting reprimand for our benefit.

This week I bit the bullet and admitted I cannot source 7/16" rod anywhere in town, so had a go on the lathe (my 3rd ever time in control of the lathe) and turned down a 12mm rod at the ends so it would work as a 7/16" rod for the throttle shaft.

Given anything cool or out of the regular rarely, if ever, happens in my work day, I won't be a contributor here.

Unless they throw me the keys to a 60 ton artic dump truck.

I am in the boring pile too. Number crunching analysis these days. I don't even sell semi-cool tech stuff anymore :D

Haven't done any work yet today, but yesterday I installed a new hot water system for a client.

Day off, like I do now pretty much every Friday. I deal all day with people with no money, and manage the team at two sites who also deal with people who no money and other complex problems, so gets a bit much doing it five days a week.

My main caseworker is taking leave soon and I may need to do five days those weeks. Although I'm trying to give other staff more hours so I don't have to come in.

Can be rewarding when you know you have helped someone on the brink of something horrific, by throwing them a lifeline. But they're not all like that. But if I was to think about it, I could probably think of six - eight people over the last few years who would have checked out early had we not been there.
