my stepmum has a GTI golf and she swears by it. I personally don't like the styling of them.

the accord seems like a good car so far, first impressions are good. it's a little camry like but that's all I really wanted in a daily in the first place.

Thanks for the advice.

I ended up giving the euros a miss, although I was really tempted by a Alfa 159 selestep.

I ended up choosing a Accord Euro.

You dodged a bullet there...... Alfa's are great when new...but an awful pile as they age.

IMO the worst feature about Euro cars is that they are stupidly complex when simple would do. When new, they are brilliant but once the k's build up and they get a few years under their tyres, things go bingo and mechanics either turn away in fright or do the "moola hula" as they quote for repairs.

My mechanic told me about a nice BMW convertible that was brought in by the woman owner a few years back. She was visiting from out of town. The car wasn't running well.

He diagnosed the problem as a spark plug lead (simple) and repaired it with parts from his workshop. He priced a set of genuine leads ($400+) and explained to the owner. Her only concern was when it would be ready. Cost does not seem to effect some people.

I'm from Europe.... And have had euros (vw/Audi) for ever.
Nobody buys genuine OEM parts, we all buy spurious parts from aftermarket suppliers.

They are cheap to run and cheap to buy parts for...if you live in Europe.
Living in Australia, the gouging is apparent for any euro owners..... Might be easier to order parts in Europe and get them delivered?

Which suggests that, even in Europe, genuine parts are overpriced?
