Anyone tell me what LED this type is - it has no ID on it or numbers. The PCB is frm a VZ L1 cluster

*cough* SIDELED *cough*

I would HIGHLY recommend using 3mm leds if your looking for a brighter look, or if wanting a white lcd screen.. since the slight green tint of the lcd makes the small white smd leds give off a greenish look tinge. High powered white 3mm leds will produce the nice white screen.

OK so I'm after ... Side LED of this ??? type. Is 3mm the size/type to quote.. It should not be so hard to buy them tho - so far 4 resellers of LED's have had no idea....or choose to be unhelpful. :)

Ah sorry, I wasnt exactly clear on that.

The leds your after are the "sideleds", a site that acarmody posted above has them.. although at $2ish a led is fairly... high!.

What I meant was if your looking for a white lcd screen, id suggest going for some 10,000mcd 3mm leds.. eg. First fleabay search

These will require a bit of bending of the legs so that they point more towards the screen to produce a even bright white screen. Alternatively can use led strips and wire those to the 3pads and glue them under the screen. 6 - 9 smd leds with the strips can produce a nice white screen although requires some wiring.
This is only from experience for WHITE screens, every other colour is easily done by replace the leds with new ones.

Cheers - I've not played with cluster LED's before! So it's all a little new to me.

I am wanting to swap to a level 3, 3 window cluster, instead of the crappy (VZ) SV6 cluster, but my only downfall is having the KMs reprogrammed, along with the airbags, etc, Holden being absolutely useless in this respect, how can this be done but not from Holden?

I'm in Newcastle NSW.

Also, i am having a hard time to trying get a full explanation on the differences between VZ clusters, level 1, 2 & 3 and if anything additional apart from programming is required to change between them?

L1 is standard cluster for the Executive, the L2 is for the Berlina and Acclaim models. The L3 is for the Calais and will have extra LED's on the main PCB for warning lights.

So Level 1 & 2 will work fine on a standard, however Level 3 would require additional wiring to work the additional warning lights, correct?
